Welding Cracked Wheels
We are capable of fixing almost any damage from minor kerbing to severe pothole impacts such as cracked wheels. Taking a welder and using high grade aluminium we can repair wheels to industry and insurance standards.
Cracked alloy wheels are a common problem on larger rims, cracks or hair line fractures on alloys is even more common possibly due to run flat tyres, often the cracks are discovered when a slow puncture is discovered on your MOT, cracks can be repaired and still keep the wheels strength and integrity.
Our specialist welders can weld the alloy wheel for cracks, stress fractures or kerb damage or any other defects such as large chunks missing.
The Process
We grind out both sides of the crack or hairline fracture. This is to get rid of any contamination so the weld will be perfect.
We then weld both sides of the alloy wheel, some weld repairs often do one side which makes the wheel weak, once the weld is done on both sides, it is as strong as a new wheel.
Lastly we grind the weld down so it doesnt damage the inside of the tyre.
Diamond Cutting
Diamond cutting is a technique that gives a painted wheel and polished face. This process is done before the lacquer is applied the the wheel. To diamond cut we use a specialised wheel turning lathe and computerised profile capturing. This state of the art method allows us precise control over the finished cut of the wheel and enables us to cut wheels that many other companies will not attempt.
More and more wheels are now diamond cut. It is easy to identify if your wheels are diamond cut, the way to tell is if the faces of the wheels are very shiny- almost like the back of a CD.
You can also see grain lines in the metal- this is where they have been turned on the lathe. They also have painted inserts; these can be any colour, usually black, silver or anthracite.
The Process
The process involves cleaning your alloys wheels using a specialist jet machine which removes all dirt, tar, and grit. Once clean, the surface of the wheel is precision cut on a lathe to leave a high cut shiny finish. The wheel is then completed by coating the rim with a scratch proof lacquer.
At this stage the alloys are carefully quality checked by our technicians to ensure it meets our high standards of finish. The tyres are then refitted, inflated to the correct pressure and re balanced.
